25 Days of Thanks- Day 3

Thankful- Riley

The pitter patter of a dog’s paws weren’t heard for many years around the Spain house thanks to some nasty pet allergies.

But then, just a few years ago, there was a new addition to our crazy establishment.  Ladies and gentlemen, meet Riley…

IMG_2553Part Rat Terrier, part attacker of feet, part protector of the backyard from all things bird and squirrel related, this bundle of fur has brought a whole new dynamic to my parent’s lives.

I just didn’t realize the effect it would have on me.

I was in an uber foul mood today.  Don’t exactly know why but I did know that one wrong word out of somebody and I was probably going to start flipping over furniture.

I traveled up to my Mom and Dad’s house tonight to help out with a few things.  My gameplan was to get in, keep my head down, and get the heck out.

Riley had other plans.  I barely got a foot in the door before she comes tearing out from around the corner and starts jumping around like she just won the lottery.  You could see it in her face:

OH BOY HE’S HERE TO PLAY WITH ME!  I WILL BRING HIM A RANDOM TOY AND WE WILL PLAY!  OH HIS POCKET SMELLS GOOD I SHALL JUMP UP ON HIM AND SEE WHAT’S IN THERE.  OK NOTHING.  HE HAS SHINY SHOES!  ATTACK THE SHINY-NESS!

Again, my gameplan was to get in and get out.  Playtime was not in the cards.  Not in the mood.

Dogs don’t understand moods.  There’s only one mood.  It’s ME AND THIS TOY ARE THE CENTER OF YOUR WORLD RIGHT NOW HUMAN.  YOU CAN EITHER PET ME OR PLAY.  PICK ONE.

My gameplan lasted 10 seconds.

It came without hesitation or second guessing.  It did however come with this almost deep cartoonish excited over annunciation voice  “Who wants to go outside!?!?!”.

I AM NOW GOING TO GO SPASTIC BECAUSE HE SAID THE WORD “OUTSIDE”.  OUCH.  WALL.  WHY AM I NOT MOVING TOWARDS THE DOOR?  MY FEET ARE MOVING BUT I CAN’T GET ANY GRIP ON THIS HARDWOOD FLO… OH THERE THEY GO.  TO THE BACKDOOR!

And like that… my mood was changed.

Thanks for reading…
